Terumo Announces Acquisition of Shares of Clinical Supply Co., Ltd.

Terumo Corporation (Shibuya-ku, Tokyo, Japan; President: Akira Takahashi, “Terumo”) today announced that it has agreed with Eisai Co., Ltd. (Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo, Japan; President: Haruo Naito, “Eisai”) that Terumo will receive all the shares of Clinical Supply Co., Ltd. (Kakamigahara-shi, Gifu, Japan; President: Muneyuki Naka, “Clinical Supply”), a subsidiary of Eisai, held by Eisai (84.8% of the outstanding shares of Clinical Supply), thus making Clinical Supply a Terumo subsidiary.

Accordingly, it is planned to change Clinical Supply’s name to Terumo Clinical Supply Co., Ltd. from January 2009.

1. Objective

Clinical Supply manufactures medical devices, principally intervention products, with integrated operations from development and manufacturing to sales.  It is particularly strong in products chiefly used in the radiology field, such as angiographic catheters and microcatheters, and operates throughout Japan.

Terumo sees intervention products, which allow various diagnoses and treatments to be performed via blood vessels, as one of its most important growth businesses, globally provides a wide range of products, centered on the cardiology and radiology fields, such as guidewires, angiographic catheters, and PTCA balloon catheters.

The addition of Clinical Supply will strengthen the Terumo Group’s intervention business within Japan centered on the radiology fields and is expected to lead to a global expansion making use of Terumo’s overseas bases.  The companies will also proactively engage in development of new products that make use of the respective strengths of each company and enhance the growth of the business over the medium and long terms.
