TERUMO contributes urgently needed medical devices
worth
36 million yen
to areas
damaged by the great Sichuan earthquake, China
TERUMO Corporation (Head Office: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; President: Akira Takahashi) today announced that it would contribute 225,200 IV (Intravenous) administration sets and other medical device needed on site in the areas stricken by the earthquake in Sichuan Province, China.
1. Background of the Donation
In the earthquake-stricken areas, medical institutions were seriously damaged, and emergency aid and care of victims cannot be fully implemented because of a lack of medical equipment, medical supplies and insufficient medical support.
After exchanging information with the Chinese Embassy and the Chinese Red Cross, TERUMO decided to contribute iv administration sets and other medical equipment, which are urgently needed in the earthquake-damaged areas. IV administration sets are used in intravenous drips for necessary fluid infusion, water and medicine.
2. Overview of the Donation
IV administration sets: 225,200 sets; blood bags: 5,000 sets
*Equivalent to 36 million yen
3. Timing and Method
IV administration sets will be shipped from Japan to Chongqing Red Cross by air. Blood bags have already been distributed from our factory in Changchun city via Changchun State Food and Drug Administration (SFDA.)
