Terumo to construct a new extension to Ashitaka Factory
for increased production of interventional products
Terumo Corporation (Head Office: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director & President: Akira Takahashi) have decided to construct a new extension to the Ashitaka Factory, located in Fujinomiya City, to support the increasing production of interventional products that are expected to increase in the medium and long term.
The new building will be used for an increase in production of existing products in addition to the manufacture of new products to be distributed to Japan and overseas including Europe, USA and Asia.
The capital investment in the new building is approximately 6 billion yen, with operations scheduled to start in the middle of the fiscal year 2009.
Terumo's interventional products are used mainly in the treatment of heart disease, and include guide wires that enjoy about a 30% share in the global market, PTCA balloon catheters and stents, leading the company's global growth.
Treatments using catheters have become more and more popular on a global basis, including emerging countries, as the physical burdens are comparatively less than that of surgery, and demand for interventional products are expected to increase in the future.
The Ashitaka Factory has played an important role as a strategic factory for production, and based on this investment in increased production, Terumo shall strengthen its manufacturing infrastructure even more toward further growth and enhance its competitive edge in the market.
