Terumo Releases "Social and Environmental Report 2005" with Updated Information regarding Terumo's Social Involvement

Terumo Corporation (Headquarters: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo. President: Akira Takahashi) has released the "Social and Environmental Report 2005," a summary of our business operations in the areas of social involvement and the environment.

Since 2000, we have released our Environmental Report, a summary of our activities regarding environmental conservation. Last year, this report was expanded to include information on activities regarding compliance; social contribution; and labor safety and hygiene, and was renamed the "Environmental and Social Report."

This year, based on our corporate philosophy which is to "contribute to society through healthcare," our new report titled "Social and Environmental Report 2005" focuses more on our social involvement including specific examples in which we have contributed to the advancement of healthcare based on our mission to establish better relationships with society.

Main sections of the "Social and Environmental Report 2005"

  1. Feature: Contributing to Society through Healthcare
    The report introduces Terumo's development of innovative medical devices as well as our activities to bring "safety and reliability" to the medical workplace based on our corporate philosophy which is to "contribute to society through healthcare."
  2. Report on Society (Our relationships with our customers, society and our associates)
    We report on our communication with medical professionals as well as our customers, provide useful health information and also describe activities that we undertake to contribute to society and create safe and comfortable working environments.
  3. Report on the Environment
    1. Product development with the environment in mind
      Development of products aimed at reducing hospital waste: high-calorie IV solutions.
    2. Zero-use of toxic substances (mercury): electronic thermometers and blood pressure gauges
    3. Actions for countering global warming
      We will reduce CO2 emissions by 25% of the FY1990 levels based on unit of output by FY2010 (revised in 2005).
    4. Achievement of zero-emissions
      In FY2004 our Kofu and Fujinomiya Factories achieved zero emission, which means we have now achieved zero emission at all of our factories and headquarters.

As much as the "Social and Environmental Report 2005" is an annual report of crucial corporate mandates relating to our society and the environment, it also outlines our endeavors to take on new goals and issues.
