A catheter fixer with an entirely new concept SurSecure
to be launched

Terumo Corporation (head office: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; president: Takashi Wachi) will begin distributing the SurSecure catheter securement device, which can fix an internally retained catheter (fine tube) to the skin safely and surely, to medical institutions nationwide from April 1, 2002. Our sales target is \800 million in fiscal 2004.

If an internally retained catheter for I.V. or urine drainage comes off due to the patient's movements, there is a risk of complications such as blood stream infection. SurSecure is a new type of securement device which fits the joint part of a catheter into a stopper part installed on a soft pad, enabling the catheter to be fixed easily and surely by the application of the pad to the skin.

When a high-calorie infusion is given, the use of SurSecure to fix a catheter retained in a blood vessel (a central vein) makes it unnecessary to suture the catheter onto the skin with a needle as in the past. This will help to enhance the efficiency of procedures in medical institutions and to avoid the risk of needle stick injury.

    We have 3 types of products: SurSecure CV for a catheter retained in a blood vessel (a central vein), SurSecure Foley for a catheter retained in the bladder, and SurSecure Nasogastric for a catheter inserted through the nose into the stomach. We are planning to expand our product lineup further.
  2. Sure and easy fixing of a catheter
    A catheter can be surely and easily secured by fixing it onto the stopper on the pad and applying the pad to the skin.
