For continuous infusion of anesthetic for pain relief
New Terumo LINEARFUSER

Tokyo-based Terumo Corporation has announced the LINEARFUSER, a disposable injection pump for continuous infusion of anesthetic for pain relief.

Anesthetics such as morphine can be given continuously, either via the epidural cavity or subcutaneously when medication cannot be given orally, in order to reduce pain following surgery or for pain management for final-stage cancer patients. Pumps widely used at present have an inflatable rubber balloon. The LINEARFUSER is manufactured with a built-in spring inside a syringe-shaped barrel, eliminating the worry of balloons bursting and permitting the drug to be drawn up smoothly, with minimal effort. A stable flow can be established while the unit is in use, and the graduated syringe-type barrel allows for highly accurate monitoring of both the volume of anesthetic infused as well as the remaining volume to be infused.

Terumo is also releasing a kit which includes a syringe and needle to streamline the drug infusion procedure.

Recommended retail price for the LINEARFUSER is 3,800 yen, and 4,000 yen for the kit. Sales objective have been set at 63 million yen for the current fiscal year.
