New easy-to-use arm-band type
Terumo Digital Blood Pressure Monitor ES-P203
Tokyo-based Terumo Corporation has announced the new Terumo Digital Blood Pressure Monitor ES-P203 (nicknamed 'Wan Touch'), an innovative self-contained arm-band blood pressure measuring device.
The Terumo P203 uses original measurement system that based physician's method "auscultation"- listening to Korotkov Sound, the method most commonly used by physicians to measure blood pressure. This new electronic sphygmomanometer is designed for home use by individuals with hypertension who require accurate measurements and anyone who is concerned about their blood pressure.

- Accurate measurement with the 'detect, listen, measure' system
Physicians wrap an arm-band around the upper arm and place a stethoscope on the arm to measure blood pressure. This detects changes in vascular sounds, with measurements read from the mercury level on the sphygmomanometer. The Terumo Digital Blood Pressure Monitor ES-P203 features a highly sensitive microphone inside the arm-band. Measurements are made using the principle of listening to vascular sound in the same way a physician does. Use of signals from vascular fluctuations ensures reliable measurement of blood pressure.

The main unite and arm-band are incorporated in a single unit, so there are no tubes to get in the way.
- Automatic optimum compression
The P203 automatically compresses to suit the person being measured. Pressure is applied just above systolic blood pressure level to avoid putting the arm under unnecessary strain.
- Easy-to-read display
Displays pulse rate and systolic and diastolic blood pressures simultaneously. Measurements can be confirmed at a glance. By pushing the start/stop switch, the previous measurement can be displayed for 3 seconds before the next measurement begins.
The Terumo P203 will be available at pharmacies and volume retailers of household electronic goods from July 21, 1998. Sales of 50,000 units are expected for the first year.
