Established in 1921 by a group of physicians led by Dr. Shibasaburo
Kitasato, Terumo was founded to produce Japan's first quality thermometers.
Then as now, the mission of the company was to contribute to society
through medicine, by supporting medical progress in the service of
health for all.
From those early days of thermometers, Terumo went on to develop such
innovations as the world's first hollow fiber Oxygenator and Japan's
first disposable medical products. The company today produces a wide
range of products, and supplies them to more than 150 countries worldwide.
Throughout the years, Terumo has consistently taken the initiative
in creating the tools needed to advance the practice of medicine.
Capitalizing on our unique ability to develop both medical instruments
as well as pharmaceuticals, we are now actively addressing new fields
in response to changing market needs, including notably the demand
for home medical care and for lessening the discomfort and inconvenience
of medical treatment.
Meanwhile, to assure that our contributions extend to the health of
people worldwide, we are expanding our business on a global scale.
We are particularly looking forward to an active role in the further
development of medicine in the Asian region.
As societies mature, the practice of medicine undergoes major changes.
Today our emphasis is increasingly on quality of life. In that context,
we at Terumo will continue our mission of contributing to society
through medicine, and we will pursue our ideals and our dreams for
the benefit of people everywhere.
